Bali snorkeling - Boat trip

Enchanting east coast of Bali

Route: Candidasa - Amed

In contrast to the popular, touristy south coast, Bali's east coast remains quiet and unspoilt. You don't come here for the broad white beaches (as there aren't any) but instead for the laid-back atmosphere, beautiful accommodation, great swimming, diving and snorkelling or a day-trip to the rice paddies further inland. You'll find it all in Candidasa and Amed.

You can build your own Indonesia trip using our range of bite-sized Indonesia tours. For more inspiration, take a look at some of our other suggested holidays in Indonesia. To learn more about this Bali snorkeling trip, give our travel specialists a call on 01273 322052.

Day 1: Arrival Candidasa

Today you’ll arrive in the quiet seaside town of Candidasa, on the east coast where you'll begin some your Bali snorkeling experience. The resorts here are spread far apart so you won’t see many other people about. The beach has been largely swallowed up by the sea, and the small sliver that remains has been contained by the locals by several rocky piers. For your accommodation you can choose between a pretty beach bungalow (see picture right and at bottom of the page) or a bungalow in the exotic hills of Candidasa. The beach bungalows have a beautiful pool overlooking the brilliant blue sea. The bungalows in the hills are set in beautifully landscaped gardens with ponds, palm trees and terraces. At the very top is a wonderful pool, and breakfast is served out on the poolside terraced. The only thing is it’s a long walk down to the sea.

Day 2: Candidasa to Amed

It's day two of your Bali snorkeling tour and today you'll travel from Candidasa along the east coast to Amed, crossing a spectacular landscape of rice paddies cascading down the hills like a bright green waterfall.

Amed itself is a spread-out coastal resort with lots of dark sandy bays with fishermen hauling their boats onto the beach. Amed has a modest selection of restaurants and bars and a good reputation among divers, thanks to the number of shipwrecks.

Day 3: Departure Amed - End of module

In Amed, you’ll stay in a very friendly accommodation with lots of local charm. The tastefully decorated traditional Balinese bungalows with pointed roofs and lots of wood carvings are built around the pool looking out across the sea where you can spot the local fishermen in their wooden boats hauling in the catch of the day. Looking inland, the volcano Mount Agung looms high above Amed in the distance. From your room, you can step out directly onto the beach and into the sea for some excellent swimming and snorkelling. The friendly resort staff will be happy to arrange various excursions for you, but perhaps all you feel like doing today is absolutely nothing. You can also take a PADI diving course here if you like.

After this Bali snorkeling trip, you can continue with our Bali tour package, Bali homestay or an Indonesia trip to the Dolphins of Lovina.
