Route: Lombok - Gili Meno

The Gilis are a cluster of tropical islands just off the coast of Lombok, far enough from Bali to maintain their laid-back atmosphere, but close enough to combine a stay during your Indonesia holiday. Gili beach is easily reachable from Lombok, and it's a wonderful place to end an active Indonesia adventure. Gili's beaches are white, the sea is blue and the people are relaxed.

Day 1 - Arrival Gili Meno

You'll probably arrive on Gili Meno from Lombok by boat. Your Gili beach bungalow isn't exactly big, but it's charming and comfortable, with air-conditioning for some cooling relief when the winds drop in the evening. Your bungalow will be close to Gili's beach, and there are several more lovely white beaches dotted around the island. It takes just 1½ hours to walk all the way around the island, but you can also take a horse-drawn cart. On the south side of the island, you can buy beautiful Ikat hammocks, which may come in handy on Gili Meno.

Day 2 and 3: Free time to end of Gili beach trip

During day two of your Gili beach trip, your time is completely your own. There are several fantastic snorkelling spots around Gili Meno or you could take a boat trip to one of the other islands where you'll find even more coral reefs. The outer island of Gili Trawangan, popular with backpackers, probably has the best beaches of the three on its inner coast.

There are no ATMs on any of the Gili Islands, so remember to take out enough cash on Lombok before you get here.

On day three, your stay on this Gili beach comes to an end and it's time to say goodbye to Gili Meno and continue your trip back to Lombok or one of the other islands.
