Due to its high altitude, the climate in Bogor is a lot more comfortable than in Jakarta. It's peaceful and provincial here, and when you travel to Bogor you'll find that it's a great place to relax after your long flight. Jakarta is a noisy and chaotic city which is why we recommend that you travel directly to Bogor instead and make a day trip back to Jakarta when you've regained your energy. Day 1: Jakarta airport - Bogor

On arrival at Jakarta airport on day one of your Java tour, you’ll travel to Bogor straight away, roughly a 2-hour drive east of Jakarta. Bogor is nestled in between two volcanoes at 270m higher than Jakarta which means it has a more comfortable climate than Jakarta. The cooler climate makes it a popular weekend retreat for Indonesians looking to escape the busy city, which you'll notice particularly on Sundays. It's really well worth it to travel to Bogor for this relaxing Java tour in beautiful surroundings. You will spend the night in our comfortable hotel.

Day 2: Bogor botanical gardens

During this Java tour, you’ll visit the town of Bogor with a guide. The Kebun Raya (botanical gardens) are the most important attraction, and your travel to Bogor is not complete without a visit. This immense park is home to more than 15,000 tropical plants and trees as well as lush green lawns, lotus ponds and greenhouses with over 5000 orchids.

Following the little streets, paths and a footbridge you’ll walk down to the river to a workshop where they make traditional wayang dolls. These handmade wooden dolls are used in a type of puppet theatre telling the story of Ramayana. The friendly workshop owner will be more than happy to show you around.

During this Java tour, you'll also visit a gamelan instrument factory. It’s very interesting to see the whole production process because you're very likely see a gamelan orchestra playing at some point on your trip. You'll definitely catch it if you’re visiting the kraton in Yogyakarta.

You'll spend another night of your Java tour in your hotel in Bogor.

Day 3: Departure Bogor - End of Java tour

Your Java tour ends this morning. You can continue your trip by travelling from Bogor to Bandung with our Java trip which takes you through cities and plantations and also includes a city tour of Jakarta. Then you can have a Java adventure which will take you all the way to Yogyakarta from where you can continue with our Yogyakarta tour, our volcano tour in Java or experience Java our Hills and Plantions module on to Bali. Alternatively, you could take a flight from Yogyakarta straight to Bali.
