Day 1: Arrival Ubud

In Ubud, everywhere you look you'll see the green terraced rice fields, ducks on the rims of the paddies and local farmers busy planting or harvesting the rice. Ubud is the green heart of Bali and in the town centre you’ll find lots of small shops with artists selling their pieces of art or busily working on their latest piece. You'll also see local craftsmen hard at work sculpting Buddha statues or carving wooden masks.

In the afternoon, you can visit the nearby temples where Balinese women come to bring their daily rice offerings, or go monkey spotting in the Monkey Forest under the watchful eye of ancient Balinese dragon statues. You’ll stay in a lovely bungalow with views across the rice paddies. The rooms here are all decorated with Balinese artefacts, your private porch has comfortable deckchairs and there's a wonderful pool overlooking the paddy fields. It's great place to chill out and save some energy for you Ubud cycling adventure tomorrow.

Day 2: Ubud cycling tour

Around 8am, you'll be picked up by private car for the drive into the hills of Kintamani where this Bali visit in Ubud will begin. After a hearty breakfast and the necessary cycling instructions, it's time to put on your helmet and cycling gloves and start pedalling through the remarkably beautiful countryside. As you visit Bali on this cycling trip, the route is downhill through the green valley, cycling along narrow paths through the rice fields. As you cycle through the small villages, the local children will run out onto the road to greet you.

On the way, you'll pass a bamboo forest with bamboo shoots so thick you can't even fit your hands around them. You'll whizz pass women carrying fruit offerings on their heads - ask nicely and you might be allowed to take a picture. Your Bali visit in Ubud finishes with a lunch of nasi goreng and other delicious Balinese specialties, and you'll arrive back at the hotel around 3pm.
